Research Before You Give

What better way than to give than to our fellow man? But how do we know how far our dollar really goes? Is our charity legit? If we donate goods or time, are those actually helping?

Here are a few guides and websites that can help you choose causes or check on their records so you can give with confidence.

The Wise Giving Guide:
Published 3 times a year, they do a Days of Giving Guide to help donors make informed decisions, as well as a Donor Handbook and a Donor Trust Report. Visit their website to choose what's most important to you to know.

The Charity Navigator:
A ratings service that assesses and reports on two aspects of a charity: their accountability/transparency and their financial grounding.  They produce a giving smarter guide too.

Charity Watch:
Gives detailed ratings and analytics for over 600 charities.
