Hurt No Living Thing

Hurt no living thing;
Ladybrid, nor butterfly,
Nor moth with dusty wing,
Nor cricket chirping cheerily;
Nor grasshopper so light of leap,
Nor dancing gnat, nor beetle fat,
No harmless worms that creep.
---Christina Rosetti (1830-1894)

I've been so busy with a project that I have had to reduce my posting and for those of you who only read this blog, I apologize.  I heartily invite you to check my other blog, Adventures in Nature, which I post on almost daily.  Just click on the title and you'll go there. Please do, unless you are not into nature or animals, there is something to lift your spirits for a few minutes every day!  Or you can check in to A New Yorker in Houston, though it is suffering for new posts as well.

And as to the above poem... I notice she does not mention any mosquitoes or cockroaches.... what do you think about that? :-)

I like the poem...a good way to live!
hmmm even I find it hard to send out love to the cockroaches....yucky.....ewwwwww..LOL
xxxm
Speaking of cockroaches...I read a "Cool facts" that said children are more allergic to cockroaches than to cats. I found that interesting knowing how allergic you are to everything.

I have been reading ways to avoid insect bites. One is to use vanilla to discourage gnats. And it worked with last year's gnats, but this year's variety seem to love that smell. Bring on the vanilla, I can hear them calling to their swarm. The best hint I read about mosquitoes is to stand next to someone they like. : )

I am so behind in getting around to all the blogs I follow.

Glad the poem didn't mention spiders either... I cannot say I've never or won't in the future, kill a spider. Don't tell Bindu tho cause she did a great post a while back on a spider she followed for a whole summer, pictures and all. It was a pretty spider tho, if spiders can be pretty.

Sizzie... vinegar is what we use to discourage gnats... actually they like it and they will fly to it, landing in it (a small cup) and no more gnat! You might want to try it.
yes, and some cats are also quite allergic to shelled bugs like fleas, cockroaches, dust mites etc
